In 1985 Derek Dishman and Susan Haber worked together as credit managers in industry. Their employer closed and they started Credit Limits Ltd in September 1987. At the start they carried out credit consultancy work and routine debt collection, mostly in the B2B market.
After a few years they started to specialise in collecting out in insolvency situations. Now they no longer handle routine debt collection but concentrate in working on-site in large value, complex and time pressured turnaround and insolvency situations.
They are often, singly or together, retained by Administrators to turn up on day 1 of an Administration, to motivate and manage the credit control team in order to maximise recoveries in the minimum time.
Most assignments are billed at agreed hourly rates commensurate with the complexity, or otherwise, of the ledger.
Payment by results is also possible. Credit Limits are currently retained to manage a €50m portfolio of non-performing Spanish mortgages. In that case they are paid a percentage as each property is sold.
